Mini weight goal: 199
Ultimate weight goal: 150
For some context: I started trying to lose weight mid-august after I was hospitalized for DKA. Come to find out that I have latent adult type I diabetes and have been misdiagnosed as type II diabetic for years
Lifestyle changes I’m currently doing:
I will be turning 29 on January 4 and I thought it would be fun to challenge myself since I’m in this health kick plus I have to since I am obese and have multiple health conditions lol.
What can I do to keep my motivation up and not get off track? Any advice would be appreciated to help me with my mini goal.
I have a similar weight to you and I just hit 30 lbs lost in 2 months. So you can do it. I started at 245 and in 215 now and im 28. My diets a little stricter but you seen way more active than I am so I think you can do it easily. The motivation is just looking at the scale and yourself and just watching it go lower and slimer.
I would say don’t obsess over the weight loss/gain. It used to keep me up all night thinking about what my current weight is and how far am I from the goal.
Whatever you are doing right now is amazing! Keep at it. The weight will shave off eventually. As for your deadline, keep an open mind for weight fluctuation, stalls, cheat days, etc.
I do the same type “mini” goals. I decide what my next goal is going to be and then pick out a gift for myself if I make it (the gift is always something I wouldn’t normally buy for myself). Sometimes, I buy myself the gift even if I don’t make it just because hard work should be rewarded lol! And I never get upset if I don’t reach the goal. As far as I am concerned, this is a lifestyle change that will last forever so there is no finish line. Just maintaining current weight is sometimes good enough. I didn’t learn this until I was 50 so you will have 20 healthy years that I can’t get back.
If you calorie count like this you will slow your metabolism. If you want your weight loss to last, think of it as a marathon and not a sprint. The Obesity Code and/or Fast Feast Repeat are great books for understanding the problem with calorie counting. TOC is more scientific but very validating, FFF is less dense science-wise and very good for application of principles.
edit: also I really enjoy intermittent fasting foodie on youtube, she’s not sciencey but very good for motivation :)
As with all things, consistency, discipline, are better goals than a specific #, or destination, because without them, the specific #, or destination, will never be achieved. I know it might sound a bit trite, but it’s the truth. Especially with sensitive, personal things, like one’s diet. The appointments we make with ourselves are the most important appointments to keep! I try to be reasonable, kind & consistent with myself, because that approach tends to get me the results I’m after, long term.
If you don’t bave an app already I highly recommend BodyFast. You set up a plan (like 16:8), it tracks water, measurements, weight, gives tips and facts about fasting, etc. I really like it. It’s free, with a paid option.
I don’t think you can drop that much weight in that short window of time with (a) so high calorie intake (given you are a “short” female, 1200/1500kcal isn’t really much of a calorie deficit) and (b) you get a pretty high portion of your calories from carbohydrates.
To stay motivated measure yourself: weight is just one parameter, I’d suggest doing the usual measurements: hips, burst, thigh, butt etc.Track it carefully. Do a routine of measuring at the same time of day the same day of the week.
Also an app like fastastic is really helping me to track water every day, and give a burst of motivation when I’m many hours into fasting and I get tempted to break the fast for any reason.
I’d say lose the carbs! You’ll feel better with higher protein and fat, and IMHO it’s better for you.
I am trying to get my A1C back to normal and stop medication for it. Type II for 5 years. Also seeing many other health benefits from a ketovore/carnivore diet. Dr. Jason Fung and Dr. Ken Berry have great videos about IF and proper nutrition. Also a ton about insulin resistance, which most of us have if we are overweight.
Very important! If you are on insulin, and decide to eat this way, you will need to be supervised by your doctor, because as your body heals, you will need less insulin.
You are doing so great!
