Hey people! I would like to fast as much as possible. A little context: I lack some luck in dating. I have written a lot of posts about this, but basically: I tried a lot and it didn't work. Someone told me to lose weight and that's what I have been trying for a few years now. However, never with succes. Now I want to try fasting to see if it works.
I tried a few things before turning to fasting:
* I tried to exercise more: however, my education always gets in the way. I live 1.5 hours away and most of the times I just want to get to my home town ASAP before the trains have issues. For example: a few times I had to wait at least 2 hours at the train station due to national disruptions.
* I tried just eating less. However, every time I am in a social context I am told to eat. I just feel like I can't refuse that much. Also, at the train station, I just really can't control my impulses once I have eaten before.
* I tried giving food to other people. As a gift. The idea was I like buying the food, but I don't have to eat it myself. However, whenever there is surplus of food, I just eat with these people. And once I eat, I am vulnerable to eating more.
* I tried staying at home: the idea was I can't be tempted to buy food at the train station if I stay home. But ... a lot of stress makes me want to eat. And then again: once I have eaten, I overeat.
* I tried eating without my family. The reason is I have more self-control when I am alone than when they basically give me a plate and expect me to eat it.
* Actually during Summer Breaks I can control relatively well what goes in and out of my mouth. I also tend to exercise more. So I lost 15 kg last Summer.
I know I should take more personal responsibility, but I actually need help. That's why I want to try fasting as much as possible. I can skip breakfast and lunch pretty easily. It is between 15:00 and 17:00 when I am most prone to eating snacks. And at dinner when I eat with my family. I was wondering: what are the effects if I skip breakfast and lunch completely and only eat one meal a day?
Answer
Going straight to OMAD would be tough, it’s probably even setting yourself up to fail. Perhaps start with skipping breakfast, and on those days that you can’t and feel the urge to eat it, don’t worry about it, just try again the next day. Eventually once you get used to how hunger feels, and how to ignore the pangs, you’ll be able to increase your fast to 20+ hours.
So starting by trying to reach 16 hours would be a good target, it’s easy to achieve 16 hours if you stop consuming any calories after dinner, then you can eat after 10.30am the next day (if you’ve stopped at 6.30pm)
