Can I take antidepressants while fasting?

I’m starting antidepressants soon and I’ve been told that I have to take them with food. It’s not a problem for me since I usually just do IF but I want to try a 72+ hour fast (for the 3rd time) and Idk if it’s safe if I’m taking meds.

Should I take them anyways? Should I skip them for that time? (probably not) Or should I skip the fast completely?

I am not an expert:

I used to take antidepressants while fasting and never noticed an issue. If it upset my stomach a little, I downed a little water and that seemed to help.

I was misdiagnosed (I actually have Bipolar2) so now I take anti-psychotics, and have had no issues with them while on extended fasts of up to 7 days.

Again, I am not an expert. Just my personal experience.

Not sure about your meds specifically, but I think the two main reasons they say to take medications with food are 1) to avoid an upset stomach or nausea during digestion of the med, and 2) some compounds are fat soluble and won’t be absorbed as well without.

Fasting can cause euphoria. I would be very careful monitoring mood swings. Wait a minute, what if fasting cures your need for antidepressants? I would be very careful about what goes through your mind while you experiment with your diet and medication.

The body sometimes betrays your efforts and often go gainst your wishes i.e coffee makes you sleepy, hungry after a meal, exercise making you fat or being too tired to sleep. You probably need to reschedule your medication to fit your feeding window or stop it all together.
