Can I use sugar/carbs to reach my calorie goal?

Howdy, I am about to start OMAD and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was ok to utilize carbs/sugar to reach my caloric goal since I don’t think I’m going to be able to reach my caloric goal without it since I don’t want to eat 4 steaks per day.

Thanks a lot.

Answer

Yes, the real key is to stay within your calories and hit your protein goal, from there the rest of your calories can come from fat or carbs.

There seems to be some conflicting information as to what is best to break your fast with. I mainly try and stick to foods that don’t upset my stomach. This takes trial and error.

Just keep in mind that your body is empty when this happens, so different things can cause the stomach or other organs throughout the digestive process to become upset. For me the more sugar I stay away from in that first meal the better. But later in the day I can easily have anything I want.

Answer

Get it from complex carbs, refined sugar doesn’t really come with nutrients often and will not make you feel full long. There is nothing at all wrong with eating carbs. All things in moderation, including moderation.

Answer

There’s a lot more than just steak to reach your caloric goal. Sure you can eat whatever you want as long as you’re in goal but why do you think you need sugar and carbs? Do you need a high dependency on it?

Answer

Another way of thinking about it is just eating real food — meat and veggies. Eat it whenever you get hungry, and then stop eating it when you get full. Do this and you won’t have to measure or track anything, ever.

Answer

You just have to make sure your calorie allowance contains enough of the foods you need to avoid malnutrition. Calorie dense junk food has a way of denying room for the foods you actually need to be healthy.

When people eat whatever they want, whenever they want to, they generally get enough essential nutrients just by accident. IF’s narrow eating window creates a risk in that regard, assuming you’re gonna keep at it for months or years.
