Losing weight rapidly causes gall stones thats why i asked.
I did! I started at well over 400 pounds and in the first 9 months I lost about 120 pounds. My gallbladder was so full of stones my surgeon said he could’ve used it as a hacky sack. I never had symptoms though, I had an abdominal ultrasound for pain on my other side (I had mono so they were checking my spleen and being thorough). Just sort of found my gallbladder looking like a bag full of rocks.
Yes, but there are other factors that increase your odds. The current belief is that if you are not prone to gallstones, you probably won’t get them with any diet: many people lose a massive amount of weight quickly with no gallstones appearing. It’s more of a worry for people who have a family history or multiple risk factors. I still think it’s worth getting an abdominal ultrasound if you are fasting, thinking about fasting, or overweight, despite being symptom free. It’s good to have that peace of mind.
I wasn’t fasting but when I was 21 I went from 220 to 150 in about 6 months. Big calorie deficit and intense cardio 5-6 days a week. A year later I had a gallbladder attack and went to the ER and it was completely full of gallstones. The doctor said the rapid weight loss may have played a part but I also ate garbage my entire childhood so who knows!
