Answer

Dr. Fung isn’t quite as much of a stickler about carbs as some keto proponents; his cookbooks incorporate some healthy sources of carbs, for instance.

But I don’t think he would promote oatmeal as an everyday thing though. A bowl of it is quite carb-laden and will cause your body’s insulin levels to rise. The fiber in unprocessed oatmeal may help buffer the blood sugar spike.

If you love oatmeal, enjoy a bowl from time to time. But make sure you plan out your overall carb intake for that day and budget accordingly. Maybe also do some fasting before or after. If you are trying to see whether it’s a good component of a LCHF diet that Fung promotes as part of his work, i don’t think I’ve ever seen him recommend oatmeal.

Answer

Unprocessed oatmeal as “steel cut” oatmeal is going to be your healthiest option and Dr Fung would say you can eat it but be mindful of the amount don’t go overboard. And probably not an everyday thing .
