Can you fast or do omad or less calories a day and still build muscle?

I have 20 fat pounds to lose but wouldn’t mind gaining muscle. Is this possible or do I need to loose first?

Answer

I have a theory that might work, lol. If you do rolling 3:1 and workout on the 3rd fasting day to take advantage of the built up levels of growth hormone, you’ll probably be able to build muscle while losing weight fairly quickly.

I have a different theory. But first some history. I’ve bulked up many times in the past. Put on and dropped muscle and fat many times. I’ve never put on muscle without putting on fat. So back to my theory and what I’m doing now. I weighed 245 six weeks ago. I’m 6’1”. Doing keto and intermittent fasting I’ve lost 20 pounds. Only doing mild cardio. After I loose 20 more pounds, I’m gonna hit the gym to start packing on muscle. Still do keto but no fasting. After packing on 20 or 30 pounds, I’ll add the fasting back. My theory is that when you lift to put on muscle, you have the feed the growth. Any excess calories go straight to fat storage. This is my first time trying this. Wish me luck.

Answer

I have lost a lot of muscle mass but my strength is increasing ridiculously. I was able to go over 600 on a deadlift and 500 on the squat with the smallest quad and shoulder size I’ve had in my life. I think I could go higher, but I hate using things like knee wraps and chalk.
