Can you leave magnesium out of your electrolyte mixture if you’re taking a magnesium supplement?

I decided to try some Epsom salts in water (I didn’t want the first time to be during my fast in case it made me nauseous or something). No nausea, but it was the grossest thing I’ve ever drank aside from the free wheat grass shot they gave me at the smoothie shop a few years ago. I already like taking a magnesium supplement every night because it helps me sleep. Can I skip the magnesium part of the electrolyte drink if I’m getting 100% of my magnesium RDA from a supplement?

Answer

Yes. In fact, it’s better to leave out the Epsom salts and just take magnesium supplements in tablet form. Epsom salts are a laxative (like, people literally use them for that purpose) and you may not want that effect.

Answer

Pill vs drink, you still get the mag. I think it is easier if you don’t like the taste of a drink or find it too expensive or weird ingredients in some drinks. Just get lots of water too, which I am sure you are doing. I take my mag at bedtime, find it helpful for sleep.
