Can’t sleep

I’m on Day 8 of an extended fast and I couldn’t sleep last night. I was tossing and turning for no reason. I had done a 76 mile bike ride yesterday and I should have been exhausted. I’m taking 2-3 cups of bone broth per day and athlete electrolyte tablets so I guess technically it’s not a water fast. Any suggestions on sleeping better?

I’m dreading Christmas dinner with the parents. They will never understand what I’m doing, especially since I’m not overweight. I was thinking of telling them I’m not feeling well, so I don’t want to eat anything at the family dinner. Also, I hope I’m not tempted to break the fast. I haven’t been exposing myself to food, but I’ll be around all sorts of Christmas desserts (my weakness) tonight. Any pointers on dealing with temptation at obligatory social gatherings?

Answer

Your body produces more OXA(orexin-a) while you are fasting, which makes you more alert and awake, that is what people with narcolepsy are lacking and they give them special orexin-a treatment so they dont fall asleep while doing daily tasks and activities

Answer

You can try magnesium supplements, that helped me a ton in the first few weeks. However, sometime around day 24 it stopped working. Well, I still sleep okay after falling asleep, but it takes a while to actually fall asleep.
