Carbs vs Protein for breakfast?

Having fats with both. What would be better? For example chicken with scrambled eggs vs oat bran with scrambled eggs. Thanks :)

For me personally, a protein- and fat-rich breakfast keeps me full and energized for a long time without the crash that comes after high-carb consumption. My breakfast macros / micros are designed in a way to promote maximum energy and cognitive performance while keeping my blood sugars stable - which is very important for optimal metabolic / gut health. Eating fruit alone in the morning makes me sleepy. However, your body may be different, so you need to experiment with different foods and food combinations to see. Bacon (sugar-free and nitrate-free) or sausage or any other type of meat - whatever is in the fridge or convenient to make - along with avocado, sautéed leafy greens, steamed broccoli with olive oil and salt are a nice, delicious, nutrient-rich combination to start your day off.

Depends on your goals. I would say whatever fits your macros. What are you daily goals for protein/carbs and then choose a breakfast that makes it easiest.

Without knowing anything I would probably go for the protein.

Answer

Depends on the situation. I’m quite active on weekend mornings so would prefer the carbs for energy, but if you’re not going to be too active, protein for a more filling meal that won’t have you reaching for snacks may be a better choice.

What’s your goal?

Personally, I go for at least 20-30g of protein for breakfast, sometimes even more, only because I eat a lot lot of protein. And that’s the easiest time to get protein in. I might do something like bran/oats, egg + egg whites, and maybe half a protein shake in my coffee.

Or I might cook “proats,”. Badically this is oats, you can protein powder or even egg whites (you basically whisk them until they’re frothy, then whisk it into the oats as they’re almost done cooking). It’s still a carby meal but has lots of protein

I do chicken and scrambled eggs fairly often myself, but I’d add a fiber source to that. Just whatever veggies I may have in the fridge, or even lentils (that might sound odd to people, but it works). Or even one of those Xtreme wellness wraps if you don’t have a veggie, wrap it up in that, you get a bit of protein+fiber.

I like a good mix of carbs, protein, and fats in the morning. I drink a smoothie with 3 eggs, half cup Greek yogurt, cup of whole milk, cup of raw spinach, cup of whole grain oats, and a half cup of frozen fruit.

> oat bran with scrambled eggs

This sounds like you have carbs, fat and protein covered.

Eggs and a whole grain (or just bran) is my go to when I feel like breakfast too, keeps my energy up all day.
