Answer

If they don’t provide references to scientific literature, be concerned.

Carnivory contradicts the available body of research on healthy eating patterns, and there’s no scientific consensus that an entirely animal-based eating pattern is even safe.

He has great overall advice on eating a nutrient dense diet. His views however are pretty extreme regarding vegetables and anti nutrients. Take what he says with a grain of salt, try it out, if it ain’t for you move on. No need to call him a wacko? Like cmon. Majority of people commenting on here are either jealous or mad that they don’t have the health that he does. Again not saying everything he does is perfect or correct but damn people live your own life.

And I mean realistically if you follow his diet you’ll be healthier than 90% of people on the planet.

Answer

Whilst his carnivore heavy diet is not mainstream, he is definitely not a “wacko”. There are plenty of other carnivore diet advocates that pretty much are on the same idea. His main criticism from the carnivore community is that he has moved away from the extreme elimination diet side of it to include more fruit and honey. He was a big advocate of liver and using supplements for those who don’t want to eat it. He lives a very active lifestyle as you can tell from his physique. There is nothing wrong with eating plenty of meat and fruit and honey. They are all perfectly fine foods. The organ meats are well known to be nutrient dense healthy foods. Supplements are a bit of an issue and some people criticise his selling of them. There is some risk of having too much vit A I believe. But as the toxic dose is considered 40,000 iu and the recommendations are 4,000 iu it’s not a problem for most people. Supposedly only 10 cases a year. To overdose in one go one might have to take 100’s of thousands of iu. But it could build up if taking 25,000 iu regularly. So apart from being aware of vit a, nothing he is saying is particularly controversial in the carnivore/paleo/ meat based diet community. There are plenty of other people and doctors to that follow very similar regimes if you want to expand your base of opinions on this type of eating. Carnivore elimination diet helped me immensely but I do not follow this type of eating exclusively anymore. If you want a similar but less strict idea, then there is plenty of information in the lowcarb/keto communities as well. Carnivory will also gather downvotes etc as it is diametrically opposed to vegan and 7th day Adventists etc. But if their way of eating is ok then it makes sense that an alternative might also be. The evidence that carnivore is bad is very weak and biased and most data links it to bad outcomes is in obese and already unhealthy individuals. So there will always be push back from the other side of the diet wars. Personally I find his content to be a bit hyperbolic, a lot of shouty YouTube shorts to garner attention but he does more thoughtful stuff and looks at studies in his main channel. I wouldn’t base a way of eating on his content alone, but once you are on a carnivore type diet there is not much more to eliminate so some hyperbole to generate traffic and views seems common.
