CarnivoreMD book diet different from website diet

Hey all,

Just finished reading Paul Saladino’s book the carnivore diet in which he recommends basically only meat in his carnivore plans level 1-5. However, looking at his website the first picture shows him with a bunch of fruits, honey and cheese. When using the calculator on his website it recommends eating a lot of fruit and honey too. The diets recommended in his book would put you in ketosis, but not the one on his website.

Does anyone know why there’s a difference? Did he change his thinking since writing the book?

Answer

Paul Saladino, pretty recently changed his stance on the carnivore diet. Although he still advocates for eating lots of meat, organs, and using saturated fats over polyunsaturated ones, he has also begun promoting eating things like fruit, raw honey, and raw kefir/milk. Long term ketosis plummeted his free testosterone levels, so he’s been modifying his message.

Answer

Eating nothing but meat and cheese might put you into ketosis but that is really rough on your kidneys in the long run and a great way to get kidney stones. Fruit and honey are basically sugar sources and would knock you out of ketosis pretty much straightaway.

Sounds like this “diet” is pretty suspect. There’s plenty of other science and diets out there focused on high-protein/low-carb if that’s the way you want to go. Only meat sounds pretty unhealthy.

Answer

Another name for the carnivore diet is eating disorder. The same as any other diet that advocates removing entire food groups.

If you want to loose weight eat smaller portion sizes, reduce simple carbs and focus on protein & fiber to reduce your overall food consumption. The only diets that have actual evidence of longevity benefits are Mediterranean, traditional Japanese and traditional Korean. They all include many complex carbs, fruits, vegetables and limits red meat consumption compared to western.

I’m sorry but you are clinically insane to have paid money for that book. Is it just that the narrative excites you? It’s human nature to love a good story, especially one that goes against the grain, but insanity to trust this one man who has a massive financial gain, over the reputable professionals such as dieticians and neutral meta-analysis’ of the data.

Answer

> Does anyone know why there’s a difference?

Probably for the same reason there’s a massive difference in his actual qualifications, versus the information he spews on the internet - which he is very very unqualified for.

He is logically inconsistent, and can’t see an end to anything.

His intentions are 100% to make money off of a book, and his TikTok engagement.
