Carrot fries vs sweet potato fries

I started making carrot fries, they are great. I know not healthy but as alternative to regular fries or another process snack. Would it be better to go with sweet potato’s instead of carrots, for nutrition? I know both would be high fat from the oil but what else should I consider?

Answer

Oh they’re super healthy if you bake them! I like spicy fries and you can do this with squash too. You cut them to fry size, spritz them with vegetable broth and shake seasoning on them, then bake until the desired level of crispiness. Delicious and completely healthy! You can also make healthy gravy by thickening vegetable broth with flour and spices, or arrowroot powder (some like that more than flour) and simmering until done. Adding mushroom broth to the gravy gives a boost of flavour also

There’s nothing inherently bad about potatoes. They don’t need replacing at all. But variety is good.

It’s the process you need to replace if you want healthier food: frying, delicious as it is, is always worse than boiling.

I have low blood pressure (#dysautonomia) and I’m suppose to consume like 4 tablespoons of salt a day (doctors orders lol) and my body literally craves salt because it just makes me feel 100x better. And anyway the point is I have a FAT weakness for fries. I freaking love the suckers. So carrot fries is a GREAT idea and thank you for sharing this💛 my autonomic system and my arteries thank you

Answer

How do you define healthy? I’d say empty calories, refined sugar, lots of food additives and inflammatory oils are what should be considered unhealthy. If you parboil vegetables in salted water and then roast them in the oven with a tablespoon or two of oil, that’s not unhealthy. It won’t even contain a lot of calories that way either.

Answer

You could lightly coat w/oil and use an air fryer/toaster oven instead of deep frying them.

Also, the nutrition difference from sweet potatoes vs carrots when they’re being deep fried by extremely unhealthy seed oils is neglible.

Answer

winning combo right now is sweet potato fries tossed in olive oil with salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and a little bit of polenta. cook at 425 (takes about 30 min but i check every 15 min to rotate)

Answer

White Potatoes literally have zero grams of fat. The only fat part is when you add your oils to it. I just air fry my potatoes with no oil on it, a little bit of flavor god seasoning and you’re good to go.
