Chia seeds for a fast?

Hi everyone, I’m new to this subreddit and I’m currently on day 3 of a water fast. I’ve gotten some good advice here already; I originally bought Liquid IV and then realized it’s not great for water fasting, so I just bought some Junp instead that’s going to arrive tomorrow.

I take a daily multivitamin, cal-mag supplements, and probiotics. I have also been drinking chia seeds mixed in my water, a tbsp of chia seeds has about 60 cal but I figured because there are numerous health benefits to chia seeds — not to mention the vitamins and minerals but it also gives some protein, and chia seeds in a regular diet can help with bowel movements — that it would be okay to take. I’m wondering if this is really okay for a water fast though? Does it mess up the fast? I’m doing this because the last time I did a water fast I literally shat myself because my poops were so watery.

Great question so please treat my response below as added info - not criticism.

A water fast is that - water or water + electrolytes.

Some prefer a dirty fast which includes black coffee, tea, bone broth, etc - drinks that have some calories but don’t trigger an insulin response.

Anything other than the above - juice “fast,” fasting with kefir/chia seeds/protein shakes are VLC - a very low calorie diet.

You can’t consume significant calories or have foods trigger an insulin response - and claim to be fasting.

Not a purist by any means.
