Coconut sugar is still sugar. Eating it excessively will cause the same problems as cane sugar, aka tooth problems and excessive spikes in blood glucose level. But if you consume it in moderation it shouldnt cause much harm.
Marketing brown cane or coconut sugar as “Healthy sugars” is a wellness industry marketing scam. Refined white sugar made from beets, organic brown cane sugar and coconut sugar are all the same molecule. It’s sucrose which contains 1 glucose and 1 fructose.
The color and flavor come from a small amount of “impurities” such as molasses in brown sugar, which is removed by refinement process but only makes up a tiny percentage of the end product anyway.
coconut sugar is only good if you want a subtle coconut flavor for your dessert. Same with brown sugar if you like the flavor go for it, but personally I’m not paying 3-7€ for a bag when I can get refined sugar for 1€.
Dose is the key, not the type of sugar. Don’t add too much too often and you’re good. It could be challenging in the US because from my understanding everything there has sugar added, even bread or spice mixes or instant soups.
Yes. Coconut sugar is healthier then cane sugar. It have a smaller amount of saharose, and litlle bit of glucose and fructose. Also it has a vitamins B1, B2, B3 i B6, and lower glicemic index. BUT, is coconut sugar healthy? No, it is not. Sugar is sugar. White, brown, yellow, corn sugar, alchocol sugars… Healthy way is fruit with lower glicemic index, aplles, oranges, cheries, grapes… Ofc kids love sweets and it will be batlle, but, they will thank u one day :D
I’m no expert here, but was just reading up on coconut water for myself. It has sugar naturally, tastes sweet and is apparently fairly beneficial having a lot of nutrients. The more it matures the less sugar content it has, but I haven’t seen any advertised like that. Anyway, the same as usually, if they add sugar to it so it’s no longer natural obviously you’d want to stay clear of it.
If I remember right, coconut sugar can have higher amounts of fructose which will digest more slowly resulting in the lower glycemic index advertising you see on some packages. They all aren’t the same though. But still is sugar and fructose has its own problems as well.
