If I’m starting a fast today should I have some black coffee or herbal tea? I’ve read it helps autophagy start quicker but I’m not sure if it breaks a fast as you’re ingesting something that isn’t water.
As long as it doesn’t have calories (or minimal, but I forget how many) it should be good. I don’t think caffeine helps autophagy (which actually can occur just by going into a calorie deficit), but it helps keep hunger away.
You are fine drinking it without milk, sweeteners, or anything else.
Done several 3-day fasts and 2 5-day fasts. Wouldn’t dream of doing without black coffee or electrolytes. Water is a given ok for me.
Do what you got to do is my motto. But it’s reading up time to look at the benefits coffee during fasting for me now.
