Coffee Question

I know that black coffee is allowed during your fast but I really don’t like the taste of just black coffee. Tea does nothing for me either. I’ve been IF for a few weeks now and have been steadily losing weight while also drinking my morning coffee with honey and creamer. How important is it that my coffee is truly black? Will it improve weight loss?

Answer

Most will say that clean fasting (black coffee, tea, water only) is better because it makes fasting easier. Less hunger pains, faster weight loss, etc. BUT, you need to do what’s sustainable for you. So, if things are going well, then do what works. If things plateau or it’s hard to maintain your fast, try switching to black coffee for a few to see how that helps.

I am a newbie here, I just heard about this today but that is my big question. I love coffee with creamer/sugar - I don’t think I could give it up.

I just wanted to add that I have been unintentionally doing this just between not having an appetite in the morning and then being busy with work and kids. I have a cup or two of coffee a day and then dinner and desserts/snacks from like 7-10/11. I notice I was on the smaller side of average when I have been doing this consistently but thought it was bad for me so I would get better about eating regular meals and found I was on the heavier side of normal - even if I was eating healthier.

Seriously, its trial and error to develop a taste for black coffee. Some are very harsh on your stomach, some bitter tasting as well. You just need to find the right blend and you will really begin to appreciate how good black coffee tastes. Starbucks has some great tasting blends.

Answer

Depends on what is in the creamer (if it’s one of those store brands, then it’s purely bad ingredients), but in all likelihood, the honey and creamer are causing insulin spikes and breaking your fast.

I gave up coffee for now because I don’t like it black. I’ll find a way to re-incorporate it back into my diet when I get closer to my goals.

You could probably find a creamer that is keto and a sugar substitute, but my attitude is there is absolutely nothing in this world I can’t live without. (besides my wife)

Answer

I love black coffee, but I understand the taste isn’t everyone’s favorite. To better moderate your blood sugar to avoid hunger pains/feeling faint, etc I’d experiment with no honey, but still some cream in your coffee in the mornings. In my experience, having something with sugar in the morning sets me up to be hungrier throughout the day, than just something with fat/protein like cream
