coffee - suggestions to help with stomach issues

hi, I fast from 8pm to 1pm. During that time, I have to have coffee. I can’t function without it. Problem is - coffee on an empty stomach = upset bowels. I only have one coffee a day.

Any suggestions for getting my coffee in, but avoiding the upset stomach? Do i need to line my stomach with something, before having the coffee?

As far as the fasting goes, I’m not entirely strict with this. So I have tried adding soy milk to the coffee, but this doesn’t negate the effects. But if there’s something else that I can try, then I’m happy to have this, even though technically it will break my fast.

thanks in advance!

Have you tried different types of coffee? I can easily manage 4-6 cups of black coffee on an empty stomach if it’s a light to medium roasted coffee, but can’t have one cup of coffee on an empty stomach if it’s a dark roast. My stomach can’t take it. I’ve tried this with nearly twenty brands and in my case, it’s categoric.

Try cold brew, you can brew yourself overnight in the fridge and then heat it up, it is much less acidic than hot brewed coffee and that can help with stomach issues. I have chamomile tea and I used to have 3 cups during my fast but started having stomach pains. I still have my one cup in my eating window but none on an empty stomach. Took me time to adjust but now I function fine without it during my fast

Sometimes it’s the caffeine itself on an empty stomach that’s the issue. If you need that little perk over decaf, you could try doing half-caf.

Also as mentioned experiment with different types and qualities of coffee. You can also try brewing it differently. Cold brew tends to be less harsh.

Having coffee is also a bit like need to have food… I understand it can be hard, but a coffee habbit can be kicked at the expense of one shitty week. I do speak from my experience so YMMV.

Rest of the posts are good too . Try different brews.. ex filter , if it’s caffeine may be black tea?

Good luck
