Coffee with cream

I thought I was doing intermittent fasting by only having coffee with cream in the morning. But then I had to do some fasting lab work for blood draw today so I skipped the coffee and I’m ravishingly hungry and it’s leading me to believe that maybe coffee with cream in the morning does not count as intermittent fasting. I had a coworker who did it and he would drink energy drinks in the morning which I thought was total b* and he was actually losing a lot of weight so that’s why I thought coffee would be okay what’s the verdict?

Answer

While in a fasted state, consuming pure fat (assuming this is whole heavy cream, not half n half or similar) you will be fine. It will not spike blood sugar or kick you out of a fasted state. If your goal is weight loss, then your body will burn the fat in the cream before your own fat. So only cut out the cream if your goal is weight loss.
