Concerning weight-loss, is IF or water fasting more effective?

I’m prioritising health either way, and have a history of both IF/WF, but would love some outside opinion (and resources if you have any).

An example being, if someone did OMAD/20:4 fasting for 30 days (perhaps with intervals of eating), would the effects (weight-wise) be similar/less/more than someone who fully water-fasted for that same period? Would it be different, or would there be other negatives to one over the other?

Answer

I’m a bit confused - in your example, do you mean water fasting for 30 days straight? As in no food for a month? I’m sure you’d lose weight, but that sounds like dangerous teritory…A better comparison might be OMAD vs ADF where you eat one day and fast the next, or OMAD vs 5:2 where you don’t eat for 2 days out of every week.

Answer

If you have too much fat, then do no more than 2 meals per day with zero snacking, and fast one day per week.Example: have dinner Sunday, and then don’t eat again until Tuesday.

Once you get rid of the body fat, there’s no real need to routinely do extended fasting. A couple/few times per year is good. Just stick to healthy food and you’ll IF every day automatically because your hunger levels will be a lot lower
