Considering to fast 24 h once a week- benefits and side effects

Hi people,

I have experience with fasting in the past 16/8 protocol. I did experienced more alertness, sharpness of my mind and was feeling more energetic. Also brain fog didn’t exist while i was fasting .

2 years ago i tried 24 h fast and it was ok for me.

Now thinking to put 24 h fast protocol for me every week to decrease symptom of depression, anxiety, to get mental clarity, clean my body , and to help me with my spirituality.

Is there any side effect of doing this ? Please can you describe to me your experience if you doing it for same or similar reasons.

Regards

I have been doing one 42 every week and a 16:8 or 18:6 the rest of the week for nearly a year. It’s helped me lose more weight and helps keep my skin clear. I had moderate fatty liver and this was a protocol I had decided on to help dump my liver once a week. Whatever schedule you plan on, if you Google chart of fasting benefits hour by hour, you can look and see what happens and what your trying to do. Many people report spiritual and mental effects during fasting periods longer than 24 hours.

Since you have underlying health issues, you should talk with your doctor about it. There might be problems with your medications (like needing to take them with food to reduce stomach discomfort/damage). There could be problems with the fast making your current symptoms worse as well. It’s a risk when dealing with existing illnesses

That said, longer fasts shouldn’t otherwise do any damage. I find 20-24h mark I get a bit moody as my body adjusts to no food. So that’s something to consider I suppose

If you’re doing it for health benefits, though, your body will start to ramp up autophagy which could help you some. Longer fasts can see compounded effects as you go longer. 72 hours is the magic number for most bodies being in a state of regeneration and healing. The longer you go after that, the more benefits you reap. But this isn’t something you should just do. If fasting works for you, and you’re interested in this, slowly build up to it. Not only will it be easier on your body but then you can also carefully monitor if anything is feeling off with your current illnesses, too
