Could I “extend” my water fast by introducing keto meals halfway?

Title correction: extend *ketosis.

I wanted to do a 7 day water fast, but I have a very hard time getting past the 40ish mark. I feel very sick and end up throwing up non stop even with electrolytes and proper hydration.

Could I introduce some very low carb food after the 40ish hours mark and still be on ketosis? Then maybe go through more 30 hours and have another low carb small meal etc..?

I am not sure I’m making any sense here, I just have a very sensitive stomach (always had) and it’s the bane of my existence.

My goals with fasting are general reducing inflammation on my body, less brain fog/sluggish feelings I get from digesting things too often and mild weight loss (about 20-30 pounds).

Answer

Sure. There’s fat fasting where you allow yourself calories of fat like butter or coconut oil. Some might consider it breaking a fast, but since it’s only fat it won’t have a insulin effect. Another option is to take some fiber; this can help fill you up without adding a significant caloric impact.

Answer

100% once you’re fat adapted when eating keto (takes 3 weeks to a couple months) - them when you fast you start in ketosis. So, fasting or eating (as long as not too much), you use your fat for fuel.

I do ADF. Alternate day fasting. My windows range from 36:12 to 44:4.
