I am sorry about your loss. However, this subreddit does not allow front page posts which are personal situations or diet evaluations. You must use the comments section of the weekly post instead. I would also encourage you to seek the advice of a professional.

Answer

Start with a focus on adding more nutrient dense whole foods, before removing things.Add a serving of veggies to each meal. Drink more water throughout the day. Drink diet soda instead of the full sugar version.Once that becomes more of a habit, slowly start reducing portions of unhealthy food and increase portions of vegetables and lean meats.

It’s not about motivation so much as creating healthy habits that are easy for you to stick to. Eating out isn’t good in general, but if you can find something from a restaurant that is fairly low calorie and satisfies you, prioritize that. You need to get access to a microwave. A lot of what I eat is heated up in microwave. I subscribe to a meal service when I am too busy to cook healthy - but those meals get heated in microwave. Walking and jogging are also great for weight loss. Get that heart rate up and get your steps in. Sorry about your dad.

Eat to be healthy. Pops maybe would approve? Natural unprocessed foods are a great start. Build good eating habits. 6 months from now you may weigh the same but if you’ve built good eating habits they’ll do good for you. WW may be good, and look for medditerreanean dishes you like. Good luck happy eating.

Sorry for your loss.

Long story short, pick an exercise as your new hobby.

I have been overweight for years. I tried diet and gym, but I always gained the weight I lost back. During lockdown, I put on 50lbs for eating unhealthy, not exercising and a lot of stress. I tried cycling and had since felt in love. I love when I was pushing myself to my limits and the feelings of a racing heartbeat. I am now eating healthy and don’t crave junk food the way I used to do. Lost 80lbs and I have maintained that weight for over a year.

I see that you don’t have access to the kitchen, but can you buy a small pressure cooker for stews? I live alone and don’t have a ton of time to cook. I buy beef shank and make beef shank stews. They are tasty when warm but you can also eat beef shank slices when cold. You can buy them from local Chinese store as their cut do not have the bones. They are a tasty source of protein warm and cold. Get some whole wheat bread and veggies and you got yourself a meal.

Take one step at a time. Changes take time.

idk i think it all has to do with your environment. if you have the crappy foods accessible then you’ll eat them.. they are just so damn addictive. if they are a drive to the grocery store or a walk outside away then thats a barrier keeping you from going.

so step 1: remove it from the environment

keep all healthy shit around and learn how to make delicious healthy meals, a bit of this and you’ll stop craving the shit and start craving your home cooking. things change slowly and then all at once. put yourself objectively int he right position and get out of your own way.

step 2: introduce healthier options into your environment

you don’t need a why other than: i want to feel better, or i want to reach my potential. or i want to be happier or i want to be lighter, those are all amazing whys and amazing things. or just do it because its good. the reason you don’t want those things or aren’t motivated by a why is because you probably have never truly experienced those things. its long and slow but when you do start to feel those good feelings, feel that feeling and chase it

If you’re not allergic, try eating nuts for your comfort food. There’s a huge variety to choose from, they’re healthy, helps stay full longer, easy to eat on the go, etc. I’m a snacker who lost 50 pounds last year and nuts are the best way for me to snack throughout the day without eating a ton of useless sugar and calories.

Interesting how 170 on you looks chunky while I also have the exact same stats as you but 2 pds heavier but with lean muscles and flat tummy. I work out 6 hrs a week and eat healthy most weekdays using MFP. Made the change mid pandemic and now addicted to developing my phisique. Reminds me of my driver license where it lists 170pds and looking slightly round. I came a long way and hope this motivates you!

Read the slight edge. It’s a powerful book on the power of slowly changing your habits over time to give you want you want in the long run.

From a personal level, I highly recommend fasting in the morning - then eat two meals between noon and 8pm, consisting of chicken, broccoli, small amount of rice or pasta, hard boiled eggs, olives. I used to be terrible with overeating, I’m not over it but I’m a lot better as a result of eating healthy yet SATISFYING meals, longevity is key 😊

I know this will be unpopular on this sub, but something that has worked great helping me overcome a sweets craving is chewing double bubble. Yes it does have sugar, but it hits that craving so well for me. Chee 2-3 pieces and it’s like I’ve had dessert for only 60 calories
