Answer

5-6k IU is definitely not too much, especially living in dark Canada. Just to be sure, get your levels checked to see where you are. Doc might even suggest far more for a short period of time, then back down to a maintenance level. I’ve seen folks take 10-25k/day for a period of time until their levels get up. It takes a while to get blood levels up. You are shooting for at least 60s in blood levels, but check with your doc.

Answer

5000iu is usually for people who are known to be deficient. I live in a very sunny area, vitamin d deficiency is still very common. and I would spend a lot of time outside, road cycling a lot, I eat a lot of things like mushrooms, salmon, and even I came up deficient for vitamin d before. Conversely, you might not even be deficient

Best thing to do is get your labs checked

Answer

No, should be fine, even double that would be fine, some black people who live in warmer climates would’ve supplemented with d3 over 10.000 iu and still deficient, a blood test would be best and go from there.
