Good morning all, new to the group!

I’m a 57 year old woman, US citizen living in Spain. I’m trying IF again as a way to help me address ongoing digestive issues that don’t seem to be resolving easily. (I am under a doctor’s care.)

I’m also hoping that it will help me with a compulsive overeating pattern just by reducing decision fatigue: should I snack? No? We know how that tends to go.

I did a 16:8 fast with very low calories yesterday… and it went so well that I’m doing it again today, God willing.

Without further ado: my daily IF checkin!

Type Intermittent fast, 16:8

Context Just for today; will do the same thing tomorrow God willing.

Length 24 hours

Why Make things easier for my troubled digestive system, regulate compulsive overeating by reducing decision fatigue, enable a bit of body recomposition (if I do this day after day with weight training)

Notes I already feel better: mentally clearer and not as bloated. As I noted above, I did a very low calorie 16:8 fast yesterday. Today I’ll eat my normal amount of calories, just in two meals, logging with Cronometer. No snacking, because it encourages compulsive overeating. I do drink unsweetened coffee and tea, and I’ve already taken some electrolytes in capsule form (and some salt!)

Have been doing OMAD for 2-3 months or so. Last to last week I tried fasting for an entire day and found it no trouble. The week after that I tried to fast as much as possible and have food only when my hunger lasts for more than an hour. I managed to get by pretty smoothly with only 4 meals that week. I felt much less bloated, less lethargic, and actually had a noticeable drop in my face fat.

However I read somewhere that eating too less can cause your body to burn muscles rather than fat, making this counterproductive. I’m about 8 kgs over my ideal weight. Can I repeat this maybe every alternate week till I reach the ideal weight or too risky?

Answer

Beginning of week 2 on IF, 16:8Pretty proud of myself so far, had very little sleep and stress this morning but I have kept up my fast. I have another 15-20 minutes but I’ll start cooking soon and hopefully can drag out the time a bit more and get closer to 17 hours. In any case now I’m closer to 1.5kg lost

First time posting. Hello fellow IFers!

Type of fast: 16:8, low on processed foods

Context of fast: day one of fast

Length of fast: eight hours

Why? I would like to lose seven pounds at a sensible rate and promote fitness and healing after an ongoing injury.

Notes: So far, so good. I’ve been unwell this past week, and eaten a lot of ‘beige’ foods which I think has made me extra sluggish. I’ve struggled with these seven pounds I want to lose, which went on due to an injury. Psychologically, because it’s a relatively small amount, I find my mindset can quickly turn into ‘I can do it tomorrow’. I have a stressful job, which can also make things difficult as work often gets prioritised over health. I’m hoping the IF will be a successful approach for me, because due to the nature of the constraint, I don’t have to put too much time and energy into thinking about it.

My intention is to do ‘no zero days’, so if I’m unwell or busy, even ten minutes of yoga or walking can count towards my exercise goals.
