Day 6 of water only fast, low blood sugar

Im hoping to complete a 20 day fast (weight loss, detox) however today I did multiple blood glucose tests ranged from 70-64.

I do feel a little tired and weak but nothing bad, just a little. How concerned should I be at this point?

FYI I am using electrolytes with my water

Answer

Ideally, your blood sugar shouldn’t be below 70. If you have no other health issues, I wouldn’t worry too much about 64. Mine has been lower than that and I’ve felt fine. However, if you’re concerned or if it goes lower, consider eating something that won’t put your fasting effort out of whack and see if that helps. I think a cup of raw spinach is 6 calories… you could try that during the day and see how your blood sugar does the next day. It won’t send it back up to 90 but you may be able to push it into the 70s. Or maybe it would take two cups. I dunno, I never played with it.

Answer

That’s normal for fasting as I understand it.

>The expected values for normal fasting blood glucose concentration are between 70 mg/dL (3.9 mmol/L) and 100 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L).

Edit: However, you should talk to a doctor specializing in endocrinology if you are concerned about hypoglycemia.
