Day 8 of my fast, and my belly is getting... bigger? WTF?

Alright. 38M here. Typical skinny-fat bod. I’ve carried most of my weight in my belly forever. And I also have scoliosis, which I know can make the belly protrude a little extra.

On day 8 of my fast, water + electrolytes + black coffee only. I’m not using a scale until I hit 14 days, but I know weight is coming off. My face looks great. Progress is happening.

Except… my belly feels so damn heavy. I’m noticing it now more than ever. Nothing has come off of it, and I actually feel like it’s carrying more than when I started. It’s sticking out like a bowling ball even when I lay on my back. It’s the oddest thing, and I’m actually starting to get concerned that there is more behind it, but I don’t know what else I should be exploring.

It’s not hard and it’s not sensitive to the touch. I just don’t know what’s going on. Any insight??

If your belly is soft, it’s fat. If it’s hard, that’s bloating.

There are thousands of species of bacteria in your gut. Some bacteria eat other bacteria. It’s a constant war, and a constant race to out-grow each other.

When certain types of bacteria grow in population, it will lead to bloating and/or gas.

It will resolve itself once given enough time

If it doesn’t go away you should go to a doctor. I had a relative die of stomach cancer that wasn’t noticed early enough because everyone just assumed he had a regular beer belly.

I’m not saying you do have cancer, I’m just saying that if it doesn’t go away, get your ass to the doctor.

I’d recommend looking into taking some type of probiotic or apple cider vinegar gunmy. This will help regulate your blood sugar levels, digestion and aid with the bloating that the added electrolytes are causing. I recommend the Force Factor brand from Walmart for $10.

Any pain? Ex once had a blockage on her digestive track, could not go to the bathroom. Well besides constipation gas could not escape and was instead filling up. You could feel one part of her abdomen was hard where the gas was filling her up like a tight drum.

But like everybody else said go see a doctor. He can feel around your belly to check what’s what and take it from there.

Did you have a lot of muscle before hand? If not stop fasting and eat some protein and go see a doctor. If you did not exercise and have a major lack of muscle you could be weakening the muscles you did have severely. Your muscles need dietary nitrogen found in protein to rebuild themselves. Without it you will begin to lose some muscle. If you already lacked muscle then that deterioration could weaken your abdominal muscles. Your internal organs are held in place by those muscles, and if you don’t have enough they can press on your abdominal walls and cause bloat. If this is the case stop fasting. See a doctor. Stop fasting until you’re healthy enough to do it.

It may also be bloat, but do not take chances. If it is weakened abdominal walls your chance for serious injury is extremely high.
