Dealing w brain fog at the 15-16 hour mark

36.M.

Trying to work my way up to 18:6. Currently I can make it to about 15 hours or so until I feel brain fog / cognitive decline. Before this I feel great. Hunger is not the issue. It’s the brain fog. This causes me to have to break my fast since my job requires me to have a clear head.

For reference, I’m already at my ideal bodyweight and I fast for the other benefits.

I am thinking about experimenting with MCT oil, maybe a teaspoon or so when I feel this to see if I can make it to 18 hours before my first proper meal. I understand MCT oil technically breaks a fast, but since I’m already lean maybe my body needs a little help in making ketones?

Anyone else experience this brain fog effect? Will MCTs help?

I’m not sure if this helps but I have heard that u can put a tiny bit of salt into water and drink it to help with that. Or try getting in more nutrients during ur eating window to make sure ur not deprived of any vital nutrients when u so fast. I would look into the salt thing

I’m not sure how long you’ve been fasting, but it will get easier over time ! Good luck

In my experience, the brain fog/headaches come from not eating clean - eat clean, avoid simple processed carbs assiduously [so sugar, no white bread, no white rice, etc.] and you’ll be able to do 18:6 and much longer [if you wish to get to the stages of autophagy, HGH increase etc you will need to go longer than 24 hours]. Of course, have fresh fruits and berries - those are fine.

Being lean means that your body has no issue accessing its fat, so I don’t see this as an issue.
