Desperately need help with electrolytes

The first time I fasted, I did 7 days. During the fast, I struggled with drinking the salt/potassium/ magnesium combo. It also helped that I wasn’t active. A couple of days ago, I started rolling 72s. This time around I’m planning to run about 3 miles 5x a week and lift 6x a week. 39 hours in, I broke my fast. I felt extremely weak and the thought of drinking homemade snake juice made me want to puke. I tried drinking pickle juice, and it just made my stomach feel a bit weird. Has anyone found a better tasting way to get your electrolytes without breaking your fast? I was looking into LMNT. but someone commented they were told it contains maltodextrin via email by the company (which isn’t listed in the ingredients).

Answer

I drink the potassium “salt” in water. I suck on Himalayan salt. I take magnesium pills. This is how I avoid the gross taste of snake juice and don’t go running to the bathroom. (I take more magnesium pills than recommended though as not all is absorbed into the body ie reduced bioavailability.) Potassium in water doesn’t taste bad IMO. It’s the sodium that makes it gross.

I also struggle with this, and posted a request for suggestions earlier this week.

What works for me is magnesium in pill form, salt and no salt dissolved in water with a healthy squeeze of lemon. Yes, that’s a few calories, but given my difficulty keeping snake juice down I call it a win. I’ve also had success adding no salt to hot water and a 5 calories boullion cube, or adding Lyte Show electrolytes to tea (taste isn’t great, but doable) or Lyte Show + a lemon or lime spindrift. The tea approach is the only non-caloric approach that works for me, but it’s less pleasant than the others.

Good luck finding a solution that works for you!
