After the fasting, blood sugar was optimal for two days, then It started to get high during the fasting state, and It was costantly over 115 and in the fed state It webt to 200. Why the benefits vanished so quickly?
Some people postulate that insulin resistance, the cause of type 2 diabetes, is caused by intracellular lipids, aka fat in your cells. The theory is that the fat blocks up insulin receptors in your cells, thus making the insulin less effective at pushing glucose into your cells. Thus your cells are resistant to insulin. If this is true, you would need to remove the fat from the cells before your insulin can do its job like it’s supposed to. This likely would take longer than 4 days of fasting. You probably saw low blood glucose levels because you weren’t bringing in new glucose and your body burned through the glycogen in your liver and muscles after 4 days of not eating. But, you probably didn’t clear the fat from your cells, so it came back once you started eating again.
Many people believe that the only real ways to deal with insulin resistance are extended fasts for a few weeks, or a low fat whole food plant based diet. Both of these diets seem to be capable of getting the fat out of your cells.
Yeah, I know people who go on zero carb diets. While they get off most of their meds quickly, it seems to take 6-18 months before their blood sugar acts normal.
So … fasting and eating keto (read the Diabetes by Dr Fung) can make it go away … but over time. All the best to you!!!
I mean, you are not going to cure diabetes in 2 days. 115 seems high for day 3 of the fast, though, are you sure you didn’t consume anything that could lead to a insulin reaction (diet sodas, some times even carbonated water)
Just want to cheerlead for a minute! 🥳 You ROCK for taking your health into your own hands.
As stated, fasting for diabetes is a long road. Please keep your chin up and keep persevering. You’ve got this!
