Did anyone else in the UK see the piece on This Morning today about snacking? I'm fuming!!

They had a GP on saying how ‘healthy’ and beneficial it is for weight management to be eating small snacks every couple of hours throughout the day. She was then asked if snacking is good for people with type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes and she said it’s great because it keeps blood sugar levels down…

It’s devastating to me how this information keeps getting passed around and how diabetic or pre-diabetic individuals are going to watch that and start taking on that advice only adding to their problem. How did this information that snacking is good for blood sugar control even come about in the first place? This has to stop!!

Answer

I usually see bodybuilder communities advocating for 3-6 meals a day, but they tightly control calories and macros. If those things are not controlled, then frequent eating/snacking would be an absolute disaster.

Giving that type of advice to the general public without doing a deep dive into prerequisites is monumentally stupid.

Answer

While I don’t know the info they gave. Snacking is fine if you’re not doing intermittent fasting ? Like a snack doesn’t have to be cookies and crisps. You can snack on fruit and veg and still maintain a perfectly healthy diet. I do IF if that’s what I feel like doing at the time and when I’m not I eat 3 normal meals and and snack on something light between those meals and will still lose or maintain weight.

Snacking is really good for:

  1. people who like to eat food (most people)
  2. companies who produce snacks/food
  3. companies who sell snacks/food
  4. companies who transport snacks/food
  5. companies that sell advertisement for snacks/food
  6. companies that sell services/goods that help people who are too much food/ too many snacks…The list goes on.Eating more or less no stop throughout the day is a sick byproduct of western world consumerism and it’s dependence on over consumption.Never in human history have we had the physiological need to eat 6 times a day and our bodies are not made for it.

Doctors are worse than useless. Truly they are

My thyroid levels read an overactive thyroid. All the blood work confirms it. Direct quote from my doctor “but obviously that can’t be accurate because your obese”. (You can’t make this crap up folks)

Nowadays there’s so much information available online from trusted sources with scientific data you have to just educate yourself, sadly. Especially on TV, the talking heads just want talking points not actual science
