Diet Soda/Insulin spikes makes weight loss harder?

I heard diet soda causes you to have insulin spikes making calorie deficits ineffective or making weight loss harder despite a deficit. Is this true? Can insulin spikes counteract a calorie deficit and do sugary no calorie drinks cause this? I thought it was literally just calories in calories out

Answer

its untrue. it is just calories in / out.

as soon as people spread misinformation like the insulin model of obesity, ignore them. i know it sounds harsh and maybe you like some of the people pushing it, but they are cutting people off from other weight management solutions by giving them orthorexia; needless anxiety and stress if they have a piece of bread in defiance of their low carb diet.

below are 2 vids of dr layne noton, phD in protein metabolism, debunking artificial sweeteners causing obesity. the first link he talks about glucagon, which is not mentioned in the second one. the second one is more inflammatory and is more detailed, but he goes over this subject in a lot of his videos.

although anecdote isnt needed, i calorie count with relative precision and i fast. i drink 5-6 cans of aspartame/sucralose sweetened diet pop and teas per day and continue losing fat at the exact same rate as without them.

Apart from weight loss, one thing that is really problematic with these sweeteners is that they’re bad for the microbiome and I think we should keep that in mind if we’re concerned about long term health. That said, I struggle with this myself because I have a big sweet tooth.
