Do Chemist bought supplements really not work?

Hi

Both a nutritionist and naturopath once told me that the supplements you can buy at the chemist don’t actually work.

I’m not sure if they just said that however to sell their own stuff.

Does anyone know if this is true?

Answer

Some of the cheaper supplements use ingredients that are not easily absorbed by the body - often these are sold at the local chemist /drug store. Sometimes cheap supplements are fine- it all depends on the specific nutrient.

Answer

The supplements bought in typical stores are often highly suspect, and 3rd party labs have sometimes discovered wild fluctuations in quality and actual content of the relevant medicinals, and occasionally found that they contained exactly zero of the things they claimed were in them.

But… the supplies found in other places aren’t any more regulated, so you still have no guarantee of quality or effectiveness.

I don’t know in which country you are but in most place anybody can proclaim they are a nutritionist or naturopath. You don’t need any diploma. And the field is full of conmen. These people are not good source of information.

Even if you have legitimate doubt about the quality of supplements, I wouldn’t buy anything from them directly either.
