I bought medjool dates, the king of dates and thought it was gonna be healthy for me..

Answer

No, no, no - dates do not have added sugar or syrup in them. Not when you buy simply “medjool” or fancy dates. They are literally just fruit that is dried and packaged.

The package will have some form of sugar or syrup on the ingredients lists if they have those. Simply look for one ingredient on the ingredient list: dried dates.

The only thing they are missing is the water (aka that’s what drying does) and are perfectly fine in moderation.

There’s nothing to gain in being neurotic or gathering info from people that don’t matter, myself included.

That said: Eat the dates. One of the most energy dense natural foods you can find. I eat them frequently. There is nothing added to dates. Enjoy and live your life.

Answer

Not usually. Dates are pretty sugary all by themselves. Date syrup is just another name for sugar, it’s not much different than any other syrups. It may have some minerals that sugar doesn’t have, but metabolically it’s the same.

Answer

Medjool dates don’t have added sugar. I don’t think any dates do for that matter. Be careful what you watch because this guy doesn’t know what he is talking about. Dates are inherently good for you. For the past 5,000 years they have been cultivated and eaten with no I’ll effects.

Answer

I would not get most of my advice nor trust everything he says… dudes not the most legit for nutrition advice.. and ingredients are on the package so if there’s added sugar I’d skip them. Yes at most places you have to read the ingredients and make sure there isn’t added sugar. Typically dates do not have added sugar. They are naturally high in sugar tho

Answer

Dates are healthy in moderation in providing fiber, electrolytes, minerals, and significant amounts of vitamin A and B. I limit myself to 3 dates a day because they’re so high in fiber - there are repercussions of over indulging.

It would surprise me if Medjool dates were sold with added sugar. They are naturally sweet, filled with nutrients, but also calorie dense. Enjoy them as candy-light. They have lots of natural sugar, but you don’t want to pig out on them for a couple reasons.

Answer

I have seen on packets of dried cranberries that they contained added sugar/syrup. I think it depends on the fruit. Dates are very sweet on their own so probably they don’t need it.

This sub thaught me that the disadvantage of dried fruits (even the ones without added sugar) are that because they contain less water, they are less volumous and therefore it is easier to overeat (in terms of caloric content) on dried fruits than on fresh fruits.

For comparison, look at how many fresh grapes fit into your cupped hand versus how many raisins…

Answer

I actually never thought dates had added sugar before the other weekend. I saw a package that was cheaper and looked at the ingredient list compared to the medjool dates I normally buy and there was added sugar. I was surprised.

Answer

You shouldnt eat too much dried fruits in general, regardless of added sugar or not. They contain a very high dense of fructose, which is the worst sugar you can eat, if you eat too much. Fructose is even worse than normal (white) sugar / sucrose.

Fructose causes inflammations in the body, also can cause fatty liver.

Fructose can worsen insulin resistance.

If you want to eat dried fruits, eat them in very very very small amounts.

Even worse, dried fruits often are added extra sugar to them too, but you need the ingredient list for that.

If you want to eat them, look for fruits with very little amounts of fructose.

Answer

Yes, they have but you need not worry. The health benefits offered by dates outweighs the little sugar or sugar syrup that gets added en route to processing and packaging. Anyways they are not so sugar-coated as eye candies are.
