I’m interested in a weekly 24 hour fast because I recently did one and really enjoyed it.
I lost 25 pounds over five months just counting cals, not counting macros. However, now I’ve been at a plateau for months. I “broke” this plateau during my fast, going down 2.6 lbs, however I’m still waiting to see if I will regain all of the weight or just some.
Anyway, I’ve been reading on this sub and some other subs about how to keep the weight off after a fast. The vast majority of people say to do keto. I do not really want to do keto. I mean, I will if I have to but i’d rather not. Carbs are cheap and I’m a broke student.
For a couple weeks I’ve eaten between 100g and 125g of carbs a day. Do you all think that could be a decent amount or is it really necessary to eat less to see the best results?
Thanks!
Keto is a cheat code for most people to lose weight but it is not required. I lost 45 lbs with fasting and exercise with a normal diet. I did cut down on junk and sugar but did not eat keto. If you hit a plateau, you can try a longer fast or switch up your exercise routine to break through.
First thing is weight/mass vs fat - some of the mass you are losing while fasting is water (and general food mass) that you will put back on when you eat. Carbs also put on more water mass than keto but since fat is the main concern thats not really an issue.
Something else to consider is that its way easier to move between a low carb diet and a fasting state
So the reason people love to peddle keto on this sub when it comes to “keeping the weight off” is because they don’t care to understand that the majority of initial weight loss when on keto is water loss.
I go on keto & eat no carbs > I lose water weight because my body isn’t holding onto as many carbs > I go back to eating carbs & gain the water weight back > I panic & blame carbs
The number on the scale is irrelevant; people are fat because their body has excess fat, not because the scale says 240 or 250. You do not have to continue to do keto if you are truly worried about fat loss - if you care about the number on the scale, which is completely insignificant as you LOOK your weight, not what the scale says, then you should totally continue to never eat carbs & never hold onto excess hydrogen molecules as a result.
If you do continue to eat carbs, initially there will be a weight scale increase, however, keeping the weight (fat) off is as doable on carbs as it is on no carbs.
Weight is completely irrelevant unless ur a jockey or a fighter
The number isnt important, nor is the 5lb u will drop with cutting carbs
If you want to lose more fat Of your body then if you keep everything your already doing and add one 24 fast once a week will be enough to move things a long, but this depends where you are ? Are you close to your healthy weight or far away?
When you say you are stuck on movement ? Is this only on the scale ? Are you measuring body parts or using a piece of clothing each week to measure improvement? Taking pictures ? Humans weight should only be used a light hearted guide to progress not the holy grail
Is your sleep good? Drinking water?Do you eat generally good?Do you exercise?
Lots to play about with
100-125g carbs a day is fine but again depends on your activity level and leaness
