Do you have an auto-immune disease that fasting has helped?

I saw this article in the Guardian this morning called ‘ Global Spread of Auto-Immune Disease Blamed on Western Diet’ and was wondering if anyone has had success in improving their condition with fasting?

I don’t think this would be classified as a “disease”, but I have issues with allergies which I believe are in part the result of auto-immune issues. I’ve noticed when I start fasting by about 4-5 days I don’t need to take my allergy medication anymore. My allergy symptoms are greatly reduced to the point where I can go multiple days without experiencing any.

I have eczema and IBS (borderline for celiac) so definitely minor auto-immune issues. Both are helped by fasting. My body cannot tolerate more than 3-4 days of water fasting at a time but it makes as significant difference to these symptoms, increases my insulin sensitivity and I lose weight. When I feel physically well my anxiety/depression is reduced but I don’t fast when these are high because it’s supposed to be, for me, a health promoting behaviour and when depressed I am likely to use it to punish myself. I can’t therefore say that fasting helps mental health but I can say it helps my other conditions that then helps my mental health.

I was diagnosed with Lyme in beginning of august. Had full on Bell’s palsy and all the crappy symptoms of Lyme. After a month of suffering stumbled upon a similar article and after starting intermittent fasting and keto within 3 days my face pain was significantly better along with muscles in face starting to work. Had great improvements. Then holidays started and some of the facial symptoms such as pins and needles returned some. Started back at it again and the symptoms have been reduced.
