I’m new to fasting. I am considering 16:8 to get started. From my research I’m seeing a lot of info on the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting. Do you have to be on a keto diet for intermittent fasting to work?
No, but you’ll need to be mindful of what you’re eating. Most “eating plans” generally follow the rule of eating less highly processed crap, watching your portions, and eating more nutritious food like legumes and vegetables. Like we’ve been told to for years now.
Nope, I’ve lost a lot without making any specific restrictions to what I’m eating.
However, it can be helpful to be mindful. I don’t break my fast with simple carbs, especially sugar, if I can help it. It just makes me ravenous the rest of the day. I also try to get a certain high amount of protein in. But besides that I don’t count, track, or otherwise deny.
My goal was to find something that was sustainable for me. And no offense to folks that enjoy keto or it’s all that works for them, I’m just not going to live the rest of my life without carbs.
Not at all, I tend to stick to a primarily plant based type diet (still eat meat and dairy but it’s more of an occasional treat than an everyday staple) and I’ve seen success with IF. That being said I hear IF and keto are the optimal pairing for success.
Hell no. Lower carbs, 30-40%, can be helpful for cravings and can help reduce ur hunger. U have to experiment with what works for u. Some people love keto. Personally I go like it but being strict keto year round is not my cup of tea.
Definitely not. Some say keto paired with IF works well but that’s wayyyyy too** 😖much work for me. I tried Keto and wreaked my digestive system with sugar alcohols 😣 I normally eat pretty healthy and so when I started IF I didn’t have to change what I was eating just when. Way more sustainable for me.
The reason a lot of people do keto and intermittent fasting together is that fasting gets easier when you’re eating less carbs. A few weeks into low carb diets and you just stop getting hungry as often.
Technically, you might lose weight eating nothing but spoons full of straight sugar, if you keep a calorie deficit. But you’ll feel like ass and eventually suffer from nutrient deficiency so ya know… There’s a middle ground.
