Do you only record weight when you lose it?

Title says it all. Curious if other people record every weight they take or just when they lose it? I’ve only been recording when I lose weight but I don’t know if it would be better to see the ups and downs.

Answer

Personally, I only record it when I lose weight. In my head, it’s like a reward to log in a lower weight, and if I log in a “gain” or “plateau”, it takes away that giddy feeling I get when putting in a lower weight. But I don’t have any judgment against wanting to see your progress, up and down as it may be.

Answer

I record daily, and use TrendWeight to get an ongoing trend line. Being able to look back on years of daily data like this has helped me to understand that our weight fluctuates by several pounds over the course of days and weeks normally, and that getting emotional over the specific number on any given morning isn’t productive. The trend line can be moving in a downward manner and the underlying real data will still be spiky and messy and that’s okay.

Answer

I have a Garmin scale so I no longer have much choice, but I previously did record my weight, no matter what it did. I found it helpful to see trends and fluctuations, even if a single reading or several days of readings weren’t really where I wanted.

Answer

I record every weight. I’ve noticed I’ll fluctuate a pound or two each day, but overall the scale is going down gradually. I feel like it gives me a better picture of my progress (and forces me to overcome my scale anxiety somewhat).

Answer

I do but I only weigh in once a week at the same time on the same day. My cycle REALLY affects my weight. Gained 4 lbs last week and I know it’s my hormones, I even said ‘I bet I gained like 5 lbs of water weight today.’

Answer

I do. I feel as if it motivates me to get lower than my last recorded weight. It’s also about mindset; I understand that weightloss is not linear, but seeing the weight gain is totally discouraging to me.

Answer

I tend to neglect the gains 😔 I’d like to be more in the practice of recording everything, but the days where I feel like crap are the days where I forget to record AND I fail to fast properly. Go figure.

Answer

I weigh most days and I record it. Seeing the upticks helps keep me focused on my goals. But I also cut myself mental slack around the time of my period because I pretty much stall or gain during those 2 weeks. But as long as I have an overall trend downward, I feel reassured it’s nothing to worry about. (I have lost 90 pounds and still am looking to lose maybe 20-40 more)
