Does anyone else encounter diarrhea or an upset stomach when fasting?

I find that when I fast for close to 24 hours or more I will have random bouts of diarrhea before even breaking the fast. I don’t find it difficult to do omad but this frequent occurrence discourages me from attempting to do it regularly. If you have had any experience with this and a possible solution/treatment please share…much appreciated.

I did have this occasionally during my first few weeks of 20:4. I don’t seem to have it anymore. I’ve been fasting about a year but I’m also not doing much 20:4 anymore. 18 is my longest fast, usually 16 seems I can maintain with that level of fasting.

I had this as well, but generally if it is over 24 hours, so doing OMAD I haven’t had that issue. I heard it could be good not to drink liquids an hour or so before you break a fast. Also break the fast with something small like a few almonds and wait 30 minutes or so before something bigger.

So you definitely don’t want to break your fast while at work or on a road trip.

I’m having this issue myself, and I did a 16 hour fast. I’m just getting back into fasting, today is my second completed 16 hour fast. I broke my fast with a chicken stir fry and coffee. Thank goodness I am at home.

The good thing is that fear of having diarrhea at work is a great deterrent not to cheat on my fast, and wait until I get home to eat.
