Does anyone else occasionally get heart flutters /palpitations when fasting?

Does anyone else occasionally get heart flutters /palpitations when fasting? I’m currently doing a 24 hour fast and am experiencing some heart flutters. I have never been able to get past 24 hours because I freak out and eat to stop the flutters. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but if you have, how do you power through or resolve the issue?

Answer

I do. Definitely an electrolyte imbalance. Eat more veggies, avocados, salt your food (if your diet allows), and a magnesium supplement. Or get electrolyte drops especially when you start out fasting. Your body should adjust the longer you continue a regular fasting regimen to hold on to what it needs.

Edit to add: I do 42-48hr fasts weekly and during these I definitely have to be more aggressive with my electrolyte supplements. I literally shake salt onto my tongue, take potassium pills (I don’t have kidney issues, nor take any anti-hypertensive meds, or have any other underlying health conditions) and supplement magnesium at night.

Go to r/fasting and read the sidebar re: electrolytes, amounts and types. Follow that. You are having symptoms of being low on potassium and likely sodium. Read the sidebar, no need for commercial products, they might not be the right amounts, etc. anyway.
