Does avoiding carbs when breaking a fast keep you in ketosis?

I just read an article explaining the stages of fasting. It said after 14-16 hours you enter ketosis, but then recommended to end the fast around 16 hours if you’re new to it.

I feel like the good stuff is just beginning at that time though. So it makes sense if I eat but just avoid carbs, I’ll be breaking my fast but not kicking myself out of ketosis. Does that make sense? Or am I wrong?

Answer

You are correct but you would also want to avoid foods that will induce major insulin spikes. These types of foods are mainly carbohydrates so you’ll just have to pay attention to hidden carbs (like fruit, as an example.)

Breaking a fast with keto-friendly food will keep your body in ketosis and autophagy :)

Answer

Even carb friendly foods will break a fast. It only takes a gram or two to break a fast. Don’t cheat. Mark your gains/losses in an app to keep you motivated. You got this. I’m sure this post was written out of hunger. BEEN THERE! Remember this is only temporary. Once you hit your goal you’re going to be fit and healthy and keep that lifestyle forever. Never give up!

As long as you are keeping carbohydrates at zero level during your fasting period you can have fats and low protein snacks or meals. Think of pork crackling or bacon. You can have also avocado or just look up in the KetoDiet website all of the fat bombs you can easily make at home. Drinking tea or coffee without sugar are allowed and won’t get you out of Ketosis. Instead of milk use pure cream. Be aware anything packed in a can or plastic is most likely going to have sugar added.

Nuts and seeds are a tricky one but possible, adjusting quantity to your daily carbohydrate intake.
