Does blood sugar spike caused by exercise have any affect on fast?

Today is day 30 of 18:6ish for weight loss and I’m down about 10#. I was curious what my blood sugar was doing and started checking. Shortly after working out I see a spike from ~75 to almost 100! Within an hour or so, it’s back down to normal fasting range. Does this spike impact the fast at all? Should I adjust my schedule to break fast shortly after working out to accommodate?

Answer

No, it does not affect your fast. Your body is simply accessing its stored glycogen to fuel your workout. It would be doing the same if you were not working out, in order to fuel your regular life — just wouldn’t need to access quite as much at once. Whether working out or not, this is exactly the point of fasting — to give your body a chance to use up its stored fuel.
