So i see so many people talk so greatly about keto mixed with if, but i rarely see anyone who is vegetarian talk about their diet. Basically all of my protein comes from legumes, lentils and soy based prpduct - which i know are the “good” carbs, but carbs they still are.
Can someone who still eats carb heavy be as successful? I do eat dairy and eggs, but if i relied on that solely for my omad or 2mad, i would get so sick of them. I looove loaded chili, and eat quite a bit of veg.
My current goals are: to cut out crisps/,chips because that is a major weakness of mine, and to cut down pasta because it spikes insulin and i can eat too much and its cal heavy haha
Last year I was sort of on and off with IF, but can confirm you can still have carbs, It’s still mostly a matter of a net negative TDEE, as long as you expend more than you take in you should be golden.
I had many days where I would have over 150 carbs with no real issues at all..
In the end, it’s whatever works for you, while still seeing the results you’re looking for over an extended period of time 🙂
I’m vegetarian although probably around 80% of what I eat happens to be vegan. I don’t really pay much attention to carbs. I try to focus more on making sure I get a good amount of protein and fibre. Before I did IF I lost around 20lbs just calorie counting without any focus on the amount of carbs.
There is nothing wrong with carbs! They are brain food and give us energy. :)I have been doing IF since October on a vegan diet.. and I’ve lost 35 lbs.
Eating legumes/soy are far healthier than meat, dairy and fat.
Definitely cutting out junk food is key. I’ve also had to cut out chips, booze, candy…Restricting your refined sugar intake is very important, but fruit is still great!
for me eating the “good carbs” was a key, just cut out junk food, about pasta in my case i was always avoiding it, like u said the insulin spike is not that great, but as someone below said its all about calories in versus calories out
It matters if you can’t stop eating something. Nut butters are my weakness, 5000 cals a day are no problem with them, so I just don’t make them. As for carbs it doesn’t matter, I’m eating 400g of carbs a day at a 1000 calorie deficit 16/8.
The science shows losing weight is mostly about eating with a calorie deficit. A low carb diet works because it’s difficult to eat above your maintenance level without carbs. When controlled for calories, a low fat diet will be just as effective. The problem is that a big plate of pasta can easily reach a deceiving 1500+ calories, so you have to be careful. I try to eat a “colorful” plate and watch out for calorie dense foods.
It’s still in vs out. Low carb just helps many with adherence and hunger. Veggies are great. Potatoes are great. Rice is great. Problems start when you start eating carb and fat together in large amounts.
I echo what others are saying. I stretch my fast until after a long walk. My favourite meal is then a chickpea stew with loads of veggies. If I’m extra hungry I make homemade pitta or flatbread by mixing organic spelt flour with kefir - which I can now have on the table in less than half an hour. It’s very carb heavy but my main goal was to shift away from all the bad habits I accumulated and I feel great. I have finally found something that really works for me.
