These social media people really blow shit out of proportion :)
If you are water fasting (I think it’s stupid to do that but whatever) you need electrolyte powder as without it you are risking water intoxication. Table salt only gives you one of the minerals you need. You can also do tap water & crystal light for the cheaper version of the same thing. You usually eat the essential minerals so without eating you have to drink them instead.
If you have ever done long distance hiking or long workouts outside during the summer and got crazy muscle & stomach cramps from drinking water all day this is the early stages of water intoxication, your electrolytes are unbalanced which causes problems with nerve signalling so your muscles don’t contract correctly. FYI this is also why you don’t drink distilled water and so many hikers carry gatorade or add electrolyte powder to their camelbacks.
