I fasted for 30 days exactly one year ago. The only thing I drank was Diet Mountain Dew, electrolytes and electrolytes with salt. I lost 30 pounds in 30 days.
My blood sugar, my cholesterol and my triglycerides all decreased.
I understand this is just 1 piece of anecdotal evidence.
I believe that as long as it is zero calories it doesn’t break your fast. When I first started fasting I drank a lot of Diet Pepsi. Still lost weight while drinking it. Beginning of this year I gave up all soda, not necessarily forever, but for a while at least. I will say that without it, I don’t have quite as many cravings for something sweet while fasting as when I did drink it. This whole process is a life style change so definitely do what you can stick to. Sometimes starting slow is the way to go.
Forget some of the more… aggressive responses. It breaks a fast if it breaks your reason for fasting

You want to fast for weight loss and it helps you stick with it and you still find you’re reaching your goals? Congrats. Your fast is working
You’re resting your gut and the pop isn’t triggering symptoms/helping you heal? Congrats. It’s working
You want benefits like autophagy, better managed insulin, stem cell regeneration, etc etc etc. Well, then yes - drinking the sugar is going to ruin those kinds of fasts

TL;DR : There’s no right or wrong way to fast. If you’re achieving your goals, that’s literally all that matters. Enjoy your coke if it fits in your goals
