Does fasting make you colder?

I just seem to get colder when I’m fasting, my hands and feet are like, quite chilly. Is there a reason for this?

This sounds about right

I personally didn’t really notice it, but that’s probably because I’m always cold to begin with.

Just make sure you don’t have any deficiency (like iron, especially if you’re a woman).

Note - you also get colder if you lose a lot of fat, IF or not… I guess less insulation is the culprit.

Taking a cold shower in the morning has always helped me stay warm the rest of the day. Or at least 20sec tap cold at the end. I discovered when I was younger that if I had to do any aquatic work in sub zero temps my hands would end up burning hot the rest of the day. Now I take cold showers in the winter and snowblow my driveway in shorts and flip flops. YMMV though, I don’t think everyone is built the same. Might be worth a try though.

Happens to me on 36 hour fasts. I’m crazy cold. I eat and I heat right back up. Digestion takes energy and blood supply. No food, no digestion factory to ramp up. I wear gloves and a hat when I do ADFs. Also I carry around hot tea. I also bought battery powered hand warmers. Did I mention I get crazy cold? Lol.

Answer

Yes 💯 I do get ice feet and hands and if I sit too long I get cold all over. This tends to be more noticeable on my longer fasts (41-48h) but not as much an issue on the normal 18:6 or OMAD. I think it’s just common as the factory ramps down a bit, but totally worth it to me for all the benefits.I rotate between hot tea, hot coffee, and room temp water all day long.
