Does fasting reset your taste palette?

I haven’t done (controlled) fasting in a few years, and was hoping people with more recent experience could give me some information (even anecdotal).

For the past 2 years I’ve been doing strength training and bodybuilding, which requires a lot of calories, regular eating macro tracking.

In the past 6 months or so, I’ve been finding it nearly impossible to eat healthy foods (chicken breast and rice, etc) which used to be favourites of mine. The taste and texture is just gross to me now, and I feel full after a few bites. Fatty unhealthy foods however, I’m fine with (pizza, pork ribs etc) so I’m wondering if experimenting with fasting again might fix me.

Anyone have any experience with this? the last time I was fasting regularly was when I was obese and losing weight.

I think it is a classic case of comparison. If you spend a month without eating sugar, the first time you eat a piece of candy it will feel really sweet, but if you drink soda everyday eating candy feels like nothing.

I definitely feel a very strong difference after fasting. Things like rice and white bread, which usually feel “tasteless”, have a a lot of taste after a fast. Similarly, I can taste the sweet in carrots and tomatoes much more than usual.

But I don’t think there’s any deep chemical/neurological “rewiring” happening.
