Does IF affect heart rate?

Hey all,

I noticed a significant drop in my heart rate since I started IF 2 weeks ago. In rest it went from average 73 BPM to now an average 52 BPM. On the one hand I am happy, I feel much better and it makes me more at rest since I always thought my heart rate was all over the place. However I dont know if this is normal side effect of IF.

Thanks

Yes!I have severe health anxiety and unfortunately pay attention to every sensation in my body heart rate included.

I started proper daily IF in January along with morning jogs and evening strolls (before January I sat on my ass all day)

Surprisingly in this time I have lost zero weight but something must have changed because clothes aren’t as tight on me any more - anyways, I went to the bathroom one day, and suddenly noticed my heart rate was 50… Wtf, usually in this scenario it’s 80+

Long story short I ended up close to a panic attack thinking something is wrong, took the watch off and awaited my death haha

I didn’t die ;) never put the watch back on again because I’m scared to see such a drop in heart rate but I’ve continued with IF because I feel great

So thanks for posting this - my anxious brain might now understand it could have maybe been normal

Have you stopped drinking alcohol or reduced it? That can also quickly lower your resting heart rate.

But mine is in the 40s now when it was in the 60s when I started 3.5 years ago. As long as you are otherwise healthy then a low heart rate is not a bad thing. 40-60 is considered athletic. But as always if you are unsure then get fully checked out by a doctor.
