Does IF cause Ulcers in Stomach?

Hi fam! I’ve been doing 16:8 from some time and a day ago I met an uncle of mine, who’s a senior doctor in some hospital. While chatting about food habits, he pointed out I should not have a large gap between the meals, that I should eat something every 3-4 hours (Lol!) The reason he gave is because the pancreas produces digestive juices continuously and if there’s nothing in our stomach, it’ll lead to stomach ulcers. At that time, I didn’t countered him with any argument, just listened and changed the topic.

Now, I’ve read Dr. Fung & other fasting books a long time ago. I’ve forgotten the exact science behind this but imo digestive juices are released only when there’s something to digest. What are your thoughts into this? Can somebody shed some light?

Answer

no source but i haven’t eaten every 3-4 hours since i was in elementary & still took lunches to school and i’ve never had an ulcer.

a quick google also says that basically the only causes of stomach ulcers are the bacteria aurora4000 mentioned, and overuse of NSAIDS like aspirin. your uncle’s probably not up on the science behind ulcers, bc diet was considered a cause in the past. not anymore, though.

Answer

Believe it or not, the fact that ulcers are caused by bacteria was only recently proven in 2005. Before that, people were told to avoid spicy foods and to drink milk to alleviate discomfort. It’s unfortunate that so many people had to suffer so long, believing it to be caused by stress.

Answer

> the pancreas produces digestive juices continuously

Unless you don’t have a gall bladder to store the bile, this is a moot point. The whole point of the gall bladder is to store the bile for the next time you eat.

(also everything everyone else said about bacteria being the actual cause)
