Does it effect nutritional value, microwaving frozen veg?

I mainly buy frozen veg, add it to a bowl with a little water and microwave until nearly defrosted and then add to my meal and finish cooking. I see a lot of different information regarding this, but is it bad to cook veg this way? Is there a better way?

Answer

No. Frozen Vegs are actually a great option as they preserve their nutrients longer and, especially, they make food waste practically inexistent. The only downside of frozen Vegs may be the taste, but that’s really up to you.

Ps. Of course it depends what kind of Vegs we are talking about. Make sure they have no sauces or any type of add ons otherwise it’s another story.

Answer

If you’re eating vegetables you’re doing great and above average. There is no wrong way to eat vegetables and fruit. Clean 15/Dirty dozen is a complete sham. Eat it all, eat it conventional, frozen, canned, fresh, any way you please.

Answer

No. Microwaves literally just heat up the water inside of food through vibrations in the molecules. The vibrations create heat. That’s it. Mineral content is unaffected. Heating any food can cause some minimal nutrient loss but is overall negligible and depends on preparation method. Roasting a potato vs boiling a potato is marginally better, for example.

Answer

I have a tip that has served me well, and negates the question.

When using frozen veggies, place them in a bowl with room temp. water for 15-30 minutes. Drain & prepare. To speed up the process, I sometimes use warm tap water.

Great when using veggies in salads. Pees, Broccoli, String Beans, Brussel Sprouts, etc..
